Getting to Ukulhas

If you are wondering how to get to your chosen island in the Maldives from Male, and especially on a budget look no further - I've got you covered!

There is plenty of options to choose from. With the most expensive being the little planes that start and land on water. The price can even be as much as 800 USD one way per person! Don't get me wrong, I do believe the views from above and the whole experience are worth it but common... The plus of this option is it is specifically adjusted to you, so whatever time you want it, it will pick you up. Just ask your hotel and they will organise it for you.

Second option is to take speed boat, just like we did.

This option is easy and comfortable. You will share the boat with other travellers. The trip last 2,5 hours one way and cost 50 USD per person, one way! Much cheaper than the plane. However, the speed boat only leaves at certain times, twice a day.

We were very happy with this option. On the way to Ukulhas, we had one stop in Rasdhoo to pick up/drop off some passengers. Throughout our journey we could see the famous water villas in the distance.

I do not believe that there is an option to book the speed boat yourself, just ask your hotel and they will organise it all for you.

Lastly, the cheapest option is to take a ferry. The ferry cost 4 USD one way, per person. The journey takes 4 hours. However, the problem is the boat only leaves on certain days, twice a week. So for many it is not an option if arriving on a different day. This was the case for us, so we decided to take speed boat.

Ukulhas island is only tiny. However, our hotel organised a 'car' for us to pick us up/drop us off from the ferry terminal.
