How to get to the Maldives? (on a budget!)
You've reached this site, because you probably are thinking about going to the Maldives.
So, what is the easiest way to get there? By plane, duh.

Most travellers, if not all! will fly into the capital of the Maldives - Male to located in North Malé Atoll, Velana International airport, nearby Male.
When I was searching for flights, most of them will have a layover in Dubai with direct flights from DXB. However, this option might not be the best for people on a budget, as direct flights were double the price of what we have paid.

We flew from Dubai to Oman, had a quick layover in Oman to fly further to Colombo, Sri Lanka and then finally to Male. All together 13 hours journey! On the way back we did the exact same journey, however, the layover in Colombo was 16 hours. We ended up booking a transit hotel at the airport (£80 for two people for 6 hours!) so we could shower and sleep a bit.

Last leg of our trip has been delayed. We were sat on the plane for over an hour due to lack of fuel. It would not be so bad if I did not have a yelling man behind me! He spoke on the phone ALL THE TIME screaming. The perks.
Most of our trip was with Oman Air, which I have flown for the very first time. We also got some snacks during the flight. All in all, we could not complain, we were on our way to one of the most beautiful places in the world!

After landing in Male, we made our way to the hotel to sleep. The next day we took a boat to the island we were staying for 5 days on (but more about it in the next post ;)).
Love,
Kat
